Guía de actividades basadas en el sistema PECS para desarrollar la comunicación de un estudiante con discapacidad intelectual

Abstract

The objective of this research is to design an activity guide based on the PECS system to develop the communication skills of a student with intellectual disabilities at the specialized school Agustín Cueva Tamariz in the city of Cuenca, which allows working with the teacher and parents of the student. The study used a methodology with an interpretative hermeneutic paradigm with a qualitative approach, based on interviews with teachers, parents and the application of two observation guides, to know the current state of the student's communication. To obtain the results, a data triangulation table was used; where it was observed that the student generally communicates by means of shouts, signs and babbling that are not understandable for people outside his immediate context such as his mother, having as a consequence that if the teacher or other people do not understand him, they make him resort to tantrums, he does not have a verbal language and in terms of comprehension he understands simple and concrete orders. In addition, a guide of activities based on the PECS system was designed based on the needs and characteristics of the student where you can find games, dynamics, songs and stories which will help develop his communication.
